So there is no cover per se most nights, but there is a table fee of $15 per person (aka if you don't pay then you don't get to sit at a table which they say pays for the live music) and honestly the experience is better with table service rather than trying to fight the crowds for a drink.
Yes: Wednesday - Friday 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday 8:00 pm to close
Well the famed penthouse is $18,000 a night. But hey!, They've got to pay for that 20 million dollar renovation somehow!
There is dancing when the Island Groove Band is playing. The band olays from a flosting barge in the "lagoon". The lagoon was converted from a 75 foot long swimming pool in 1929. The band starts at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday the music starts at 8:15.
During earlier hours, yes.
Thursday thru sunday
Only if you plan to go for dinner. No cover charge for the bar
I don't believe that they take reservations, unless you are a guest of the hotel
It's a cover band of mostly top-40 hits from different decades and currently.
Was expecting more. My wife and I thought the food was mediocre at best. We had 7:30 reservations. The band started at 8 pm. When our server came to the table she said if we were still eating at 8 pm there would be $15 cover charge for each of us. The manager said not to worry about it. By the time we left, the bar was hopping. Can't say we needed a reservation as there were plenty of tables available.
This is a must see when in SF! We had such a great time, awesome band and hurricane theme. We had to pay 15$ each to sit at a table, which is why I gave 4 stars. You can also stand, which is free
Great band. Amazing decor. Service and expensive drinks were not good. It's also weird to have a packed bar, grumpy bartenders and 40 empty tables. Who benefits from this?
Such a fabulous place and the vibe of this Bar is amazing too! Great with friends for a fun time. The live music and the whole pool in the middle effect makes it so true “Hawaiian” experience.Btw. We were surprised with some good veggie option there, specially the dimsums.
This is my favorite place in all of San Francisco. Yeah, it's pretty pricy but there's nothing better than drinking an extremely alcoholic drinks while a raft floats in the middle of a pool while there's an indoor rainstorm happening all around it. This is a must go to spot on the city.
Great spot inside the Fairmont Hotel! Yummy drinks and friendly staff. Great live band and the place is huge, so even though it is crowded it doesn’t seem so bad. Awesome decor and definitely worth the stop!
This place was so much fun! Met a friend who lives in San Francisco and recommended it. Had great variety of cocktails at the bar, also heavy handed pours, so although cocktails are expensive you do get your money's worth. The band was really good, was really cool how they float in on the boat, nice tropical party vibes. The while place was dancing at the end too, pitty it closes kind of early the party was just beginning.
Tonga room is great for celebrations and for live music. The band was funny and swanky. The shared drinks are strong, and the food was plenty for one dish per person. The food picture I shared is the sample platter.
An absolute must see/experience spot in SF. It’s a bit pricey, but if you want a fun, exciting, and immersive experience I highly recommend going for dinner or at the very least having a specialty Tahitian cocktail at the bar. You will not be disappointed!
It was great!! Excellent, host & servers. Live music, dancing, and good food. Bring your big purse bout $100 per person
Worst drinks I have ever had in SF, every single appetizer tastes like they were frozen microwave leftovers from last year. Service is not bad because it is non existent. Complete tourist trap and please avoid if you have any basic standard. 2 star for the environment.
Fresh strong drinks, cool decor and great vibe in this tiki bar. Totally recommend. The entrance is a simple door so you can't tell from outside the fun that awaits inside.
Great spot for live music. Fun tiki atmosphere with floating band and rain show from the ceiling. Expensive drinks as to be expected.
Great place to take a date. Opens at 5pm but be sure to reserve a spot. The music, atmosphere, and giant pool in the middle make it feel as if you are in another world. Order any drink and you can't miss. Food is tasty but be sure you have money because you will want to try everything on the menu. Can't wait to go back.
Amazing food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. It's like walking into another part of time. There's indoor rain with a boat stage floating on an indoor sea. The servers called you by your first name, drinks were well balanced and very strong, service was fast. They served sea bass by deep frying the fishbone to make a bowl to house the cooked meat. Highly recommended if you're in The Bay, although you probably want to go early.
Great ambiance and a must see venue, but a bit overpriced for quality. You go here for the experience though. Definitely had fun and would go back.
Excellent atmosphere, decor and band. Good place with a history. Decent choice in craft beer (cans & bottles) and cocktails.
A unique experience for sure. Go for the sweet fruity drinks and stay to watch the bartenders mix and pour. It was super crowded, and we didn't stay long, but fun for a while.
It rains inside, such a fun experience! Food and drinks were good. You can't beat the ambiance!
Great club!!! I had fun having some drinks and dancing while listening to live music!
Sprawling tiki-themed lounge in the Fairmont Hotel featuring Pacific Rim cuisine & umbrella drinks.
Kitschy, corny, and amazing fun. Music is great, the drinks are really fun, and the atmosphere is just so perfectly surreal. Walking through the hotel you'd never think the Tonga room could exist, but after going downstairs and turning into the room you're transported into a Tommy Bahama universe. For all it's over the top design, you'd have to be made of stone to not love it here. Stay at least for a drink.
This place was fun with a floating band and dancing. Stay till the end, when a rain storm occurs. Theres attention to detail in the ambience
5 star ambience, live music, exquisite cocktails but below average food. I would give 2 stars for the food but the other stuff make up for it.
All style, little substance. The atmosphere is cool at first, but it's meant for high traffic. Drinks aren't great for tiki standards. It's NOT Trader Vic's. Bartenders are attentive, but the reservation staff leaves something to be desired. I've had better.
Tired and old place that was once magical no doubt. The whole Fairmont is pretty dated. Let’s go renovations!
Now the tongue Room is where the party begins and as mentioned before in my previous post this is a wonderful setting for any amount of friends and their rum so large that you can easily find a place for you and your tribe to sit and settle in with great drinks for a night of dancing and laughing. Be advised that for special events and holidays it absolutely makes sense to book early and often because your experience in the Tanga Rome will be a night to remember.
A San Francisco institution. I love this place. Tiki drinks and a floating band stage. What could be better.
The food is amazing. Its gluten friendly and there's cauliflower rice if you're watching your carbs. Bring your hearing aids because once the music starts its difficult to visit with your friends.
I'm a local SF person. On a Wednesday night in Feb, the Tonga room had live music, some people dancing, and of course the tropical scene. I can tell several of the people where from out of town.
One of my favorite tiki bars in the world. Live music is great too! I’ve never tried the food but I heard that it’s not very good.
Nice hidden spot with live music and a great mixed crowd! If you are looking for a spot to grab a drink or play some games then you will love this spot!
Awesome place to go with a group of 2-6 people. Go to dance and have some yummy drinks.
Tonga Room is located inside the Fairmont Hotel. We arrived around 10:30pm on a Friday night and there was quite the wait to get in. The line moves quickly which is fine. No cover charge either. However, if you like to sit at one of the tables there is a $15 charge. The seating area was fenced off when we went so the dance floor was cramped. Drinks were decent for the price. The live band play isn't bad either. Good place to check out if you're into tiki bars.
If you ever have the pleasure of coming here it will be a such a delight. We had the opportunity to have Raj as our server and let me tell you how he made the entire experience will worth it! Always had a smile on his face and such a wonderful demeanor about his presence that you couldn't help but smile back and be happy. I had a drink made from the bar and it was made to strong and I actually felt bad about sending it back that Raj noticed that I hadn't really drank any of it and said not to worry that he would send it back and remove it from the bill. And still was able to get another drink. The atmosphere was pleasant as well. Good lighting, fun little storm in the center of the room. I will absolutely go back and hopefully Raj will be there to serve us again!
Came here late night while staying at the Fairmont. Definitely loads of tacky/cheesy fun with strong drinks. Seems like a must do at least once if you’re in SF. When we went there was a long line to go to the dance floor — not sure why. Seems better to either pay the cover to sit at a table or if you’re a guest cut the line and go in !
The fabulous Tonga Room locates at the top of Nob Hill inside the gorgeous Fairmont Hotel. A great tiki bar serving strong rum drinks and tasty food. Loud atmosphere and a great Polynesian top 40 band floating on a boat.
This concept is very cool. Definitely visit here even just to see it. It's pretty expensive and there's a $15 per person charge on top of your dinner bill if you're not hotel guests. But the food is delicious, there's just way too much of it! The band that were on were good too and everyone was having a good time so great atmosphere.
Unbelievable atmosphere. It's worth going just to see the place. The drinks are good, but expensive... You are definitely paying for the setting. There are tiki bars in the city with better drinks for less money, but the feel here makes it worth a visit.
Atmosphere was great, food was good but our server Tina ruined my birthday dinner. She was extremely rude, she even grabbed my father’s napkin cloth and threw it on him. I am so disgusted with her behavior she ignored us when we asked for anything, never came to check if we needed anything, and when she did we just got a bunch of eye rolls. Thank you Tina for ruining my birthday dinner. I’m still here sitting waiting for the bill, I just couldn’t wait to write this review. I’m so disappointed, I was looking so forward to this place.
A cheesy but must do in San Francisco. Live band on the water starts around eight. Will admit that it is fairly overpriced Asian.
A San Francisco legend and necessary stop for a shared tiki bowl. For a more peaceful and lengthy visit, pay to get a table. Otherwise, just pass the queue and go straight to the bar. All drinks are fruity, strong and delicious -- can't go wrong. For those who want less sugar, get a dark rum on the rocks to sip. Aloha!
Awesome spot with great drink choices and very very good live music. Really fun atmosphere and fantastic service! Can be a line up to get in but they keep it moving pretty well. Will no doubt be back here again and again.
Lived up to the hype. Great classic cocktails, knowledgeable barkeeps, quintessential tiki vibe.
Delicious, high quality choices on the menu. A unique and fun place for a special meal - though expensive. Great staff.
This place is awesome. Live music starts at 8. Small dance floor if you feel like letting go. The food is very good. Take your time to eat and relax. The 1934 Zombie was good, could have used a bit more of a punch. We will definitely be coming back here again.
Drinks were fabulous! Get there early as there aren't a lot of seats in the bar area. We had mai tais which were really good. Other people had various drinks and everyone we talked with liked them. They have a simulated thunderstorm with rain, lightning and thunder that occurred at times. Unfortunately we heard the Tonga Room is going to close. Not sure what will take its place. Too bad!
The atmosphere and live music are great. The tiki drinks unfortunately are pretty generic and bland. As far as tiki drinks go, I'd rank this place the worst in the greater Bay Area. Wish they were better.
Server was ok - Not being responsive all the time but is super friendly. However, the food and drink are the worst I've ever had in San Francisco. I have better cough syrup than the drink I had here
Had a really fun time here. The vibe is great and the drinks are good. It’s pricey but worth it.
I've lived in the city for more than 20 years but only seen this place of late, it's quite the place. Well worth a visit, make sure to go when the band is playing.. the rain will get you in the groove!!! You gotta go to see what I mean!!
